The Top Three Keys To Choosing Car Stereo Amplifiers

It’s summertime, time to roll the windows down and bump your car stereo amplifiers up!

If you’re sweating it because you don’t have the right equipment installed in your wheels, sweat no more. Here’s some techie advice on the top three keys to choosing car stereo amplifiers.

1. Make sure it’s the right wattage for you.

If you are buying the amp for subwoofers, make sure you know how many watts each speaker can take. This number is usually on the back of the speaker. You don’t want to blow the speakers, or even push your subwoofers to the max (it makes a clipping sound, which ruins the richness of the bass). On the other hand, remember that while having too much wattage can blow your speakers, not having enough can do the same thing.

2.What’s the signal?

Even more important than the wattage of the amplifier is the quality of the signal. A speaker driven at half its rated power with a heavily distorted signal will burn faster than a speaker driven at slightly more than its rated power with a high-quality, clean signal.

3. Where are you going to put that thing?

Measure the area in your car where your car stereo amplifiers will go, and make sure the amp you choose will fit. Sounds simple, but it’s key!
